In Memoriam: Alvin Deutsch (1932-2021)

Member News,

Alvin Deutsch died on October 6, 2021, at 89 years old.  He was a long-time leader of the Copyright Bar, specializing in music, theater and publishing. Alvin co-founded the law firms of Linden & Deutsch and Deutsch Klagsbrun & Blasband, and later joined McLaughlin & Stern.

For over 50 years, Alvin was a valued member of the Copyright Society, contributing his expertise to the Society’s educational programs, Board of Trustees and Executive Committee.  He also served as a trustee and general counsel of The Johnny Mercer Foundation and The Goodspeed Opera House; as an adjunct professor of copyright at Cardozo School of Law; and as Parnas-Presidente of Shearith Israel, the oldest Jewish Synagogue in America (founded 1654).  Alvin treasured long walks in the English countryside with his wife of 54 years, Davida Tenenbaum Deutsch, who was at his side at their home when he passed, and to whom we send our sincere condolences.
