Deepfakes are video images that have been digitally manipulated to distort or alter content.  Often, deepfakes involve using a person’s image to depict them saying things they never said ... or doing things they never did.  This increasingly-sophisticated new technology raises an array of legal issues, implicating areas of the law such as copyright, rights of privacy, rights of publicity, and the First Amendment.  Our panel of experts will examine the question of what deepfakes are, how they are used, how they are detected, and their legal implications.  This program will contain valuable information regarding the deepfake landscape for attorneys representing content owners, brand owners, content creators, and well-known personalities.  In addition, attorneys advising platforms allowing user-generated materials will find the program useful in light of the many intermediary liability issues posed by deepfakes.
